Originally, Coolpad was a division of the Yulong Computer Telecommunication Scientific Company, completely dedicated to the smartphone. Yulong was incorporated in Shenzhen, China in April of 1993 as a joint venture with Shenzhen University Culture Technology Services, who then owned 52% of the company.

After several different ownership turnovers, the company finally became Coolpad Group by the end of 2013. By 2014, their products began to become available in stores online. Coolpad Group was included in an article published by Forbes’ in 2015, but overall that year, sales saw a drop by almost half in total revenue for the year.

Presently, Coolpad is one of the top ten global smartphone brands. Products can be purchased all over the world. Global expansion was taken a step farther in 2016, with the doubling of the size of the oversea team. That global expansion will continue to be a priority in the future.

Last month, the Coolpad Company expanded its presence in India by opening an offline retail sector there. More announcements are expected along these same lines for expansions in China as well. In fact, the company’s offline presence is their next big step for the company.

Syed Tajuddin, Coolpad India’s CEO, said: “We are not in the race of market share and market value. We’re not aggressive in putting money to get sales in one month or two months. We’re trying to grow very steadily. Companies that emerge to success overnight, they achieve ultra-success, but then they also disappear very quickly.” This remark was made to Chinese market competition.

Coolpad’s newest smartphone, known as the Cool Play 6, launched at an event in Dubai, India. This smartphone is specifically designed for heavy gaming usage and went on sale September 4.

A Coolpad representative stated that their strategy is to “continue satisfying the demands coming from those looking for economy products”. The newest smartphone has very impressive features while, at the same time, being very competitively priced when compared with similar phones on the market.

The company expects to hold a third place ranking on Amazon among smartphone brands this year, having already planned to expand stores in excess of 5,000 by the end of this year. Tajuddin also stated, “We already have offline presence in eight states with a reach in 3,000 multi-brand outlets and have plans to expand it to a total number of eighteen states in next one year”.
